One year anniversary! Thank you + Roadmap
Squeakross released exactly one year ago! Can you believe it? 🐭
Thank you:
When we started working on this game we knew it our target was a tiny niche (rodent+animal crossing+picross??), and were discouraged sometimes to see business people we contacted (publishers, showcases, etc) not being interested in our game...
But we kept at it, because we really loved the game and wanted to make the best and most accessible picross experience available! As well as continuing our efforts to celebrate and show rodents in a positive manner in video games!
A year later, we stand at 45K units sold since its release (~6K of those are Switch)! It's been honestly incredible, the community reception have been great, and we've been able to connect with a lot of sickos sharing our interests.
We're also glad that our effort for accessibility paid off, as for many players, Squeakross was the first nonogram game they actually understood and enjoyed!
We gave a talk about the accessibility design of Squeakross at the GAConf this year. We were nominated in a bunch of award regarding Accessiblity and won the "Best Cognitive Accessibility" at the Game Accessibility Conference (or GAConf).
As a thank you for the community, we released a big free update earlier this year that added 230+ puzzles (including some furniture from our previous game The Spirit and The Mouse), and a whole new type of furniture for walls and edges 🐁.
New Update + Demo on Switch:
We took a bit of a break since the last big update, but we haven't been idle: Today we're happy to release two things:
- V1.8 : This update adds Twitch Mode, Night Mode customization and thick structure furniture with more color variations for them. More details in the video below.
- The lengthy DEMO is now available on Switch! Progress carries over to the full game.
What's next:
With the latest patch out of the way, we're now focused our final major content update for the game! To be completely transparent: we won't keep working for years on the game, but we still have enough ideas that we want to implement so we'd like to put as much as we can in the final update.
We're planning for a release next year, if everything goes right, one paid DLC with tons of content, and one big free content update with new puzzles, both at the same time (call it Squeakross 2.0 if you want 🧀).
You can expect more of what you love (more squeak, more cross), along with some long time requested features! We also want to find a way to add more of the community's rodent pictures in the game in a new fun way, not just through cheesemail... But that's all we'll say for now, we'll share more news in a few months.
Thanks again and squeak to you soon!
